Museum Expansion

St Marys MuseumAt yesterday's council meeting a $398,800 tender to expand the museum was approved. 63 square metres (700 square feet) of new public space and 108 square metres (1,200 square feet) of new storage space will be created. The original limestone house was built in 1859 and has been the museum since 1959. More on St Marys Museum

UPDATE:
6 December 2005, the town of St Marys was given a grant from the Ontario government of $35,000 over six months to install a shaft and elevator for full accessibility to all areas of the museum.

Plowing match

The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo runs from September 20 to 24 in Listowel north of St Marys. It goes from 8:30am to 5pm with tickets costing $12 for adults and $6 for children. Last year's event in Meaford had an attendance of 83,550 and about 150 plowmen. Shown is a local hog and cash crop farmer with his Belgian work horses that he only uses in plowing matches and parades.

Stratford Dragon Boat Festival

From 8am-5pm this Saturday in Startford are recreational Hong Kong style dragon boat races for trophies. 60 teams are competing. Roads around the lake will be closed.

Storytelling Festival

The second annual event begins today at the Flats. Schools visit the festival in the morning and afternoon. From 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. is a family concert of storytelling and music. Tomorrow from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. there is storyteling in 3 tents and from 7:30 to 9:30 ghost stories. Admission is $5 for adults $2 for students.

Farmers' Market

St Marys Farmers' Market continues every Saturday morning until the end of October at Jones and Water Streets. This week they are selling peaches, plums, apples, beans, potatoes, wood crafts, pies, preserves, fish and pork.
